Eligibility for Grants/Application

How To be Eligible for GEF-SGP Funding

To be eligible for GEF/SG/P grants you must be registered Non-government organization or a Community-based Organization. You can follow these steps to access funding:

Step 1

Submit a Concept Paper
A concept paper is a brief description of the idea for the project - not more than two pages long. The proposal should be written in straightforward narrative form either typed or hand written. In some cases you will be advised to apply for a planning grant to help turn a concept into a full proposal. Concept paper outline.

Step 2

Submit Project Proposal
The project proposal gives a detailed description of the project. It gives the organizational background of the project proponent; Nature of problem, project objectives and intended results; description of project activities; implementation plan; plan to ensure community participation; risks to successful implementation of the project; proposed evaluation plan and monitoring indicators; project budget estimates and funding arrangements. Step 3

Review and Approval of Project Proposals
The GEF/SGP National Steering Committee will review the project proposals, and approve or reject it for funding. If the proposal is accepted and recommended then, it becomes part of a binding contract between the proposing organization and the GEF/SGP.

Step 4

Signing of Memorandum of Agreement
Once the NSC approves the project, the National Coordination will prepare Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), which will be signed between the applicant and the UNDP.

Step 5

Project Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation
The project becomes effective as soon as the MoA is signed and the implementing organization will be expected to submit periodic progress reports. The GEF/SGP national office will monitor the project implementation against the performance indicators.
